PaperTune Profiles
PaperTune Profiles resource enables the reuse of make-ready sheets from Apogee Impose jobs. Make-ready sheets are required to establish the correct color print conditions. Reusing these sheets reduces paper waste, lowers costs, and improves the ecological footprint.
NOTE: PaperTune Profiles feature requires a special license.
Color Bars and Sheet Reuse in Press Set-Up
In press set-up, the color bar is the only element that must be read to assess readiness, the printed content itself is not evaluated. To enable sheet reuse, the color bar can be printed in different positions, resulting in multiple bars on a single sheet.
To ensure the correct color bar is read, each new print run must invalidate the previous one. Recommended methods include:
•Crossing out the entire color bar: The most effective and visually clear approach.
•Obscuring specific markers: Useful for systems that rely on internal markers.
•Adding identifiers: Such as a text or number to indicate reuse.
•CIP4-based systems: Some presses use CIP4 to locate the color bar, making invalidation unnecessary.
•Positioning: Placing the current color bar where the press scans first ensures the correct one is used.
Controlling Sheet Reuse
The number of times a make-ready sheet can be reused is configured via the Maximum prints on same sheet parameter in the PaperTune Profile. This setting helps prevent issues caused by ink over-saturation. The optimal reuse limit depends on the type of paper used, and the ink coverage required for the specific job.
This feature has the following limitations:
•Reuse is only possible within a single job, reuse across multiple jobs is not supported.
•Layout Editor based jobs are not supported.
•Web-printing is not supported. Web-presses cannot reuse sheets. PaperTune marks on web-sheets are printed at the specified position, but they are not stepped.
•Sheets are assumed to be printed in the same order as shown in the Product View window of Apogee Impose. Ordering and renumbering of press sheets must be adjusted in Apogee, if required.
•PaperTune marks must be placed through the mark sets.
•Only file marks are supported, repeated file marks are not supported.
•Reuse is not supported across different presses, different press sheet sizes, or different stock (including weight).
